The Scottish Arts Council and Edinburgh City Council have agreed to fund Big Things on the Beach to involve the public in creating a Public Art Plan for Portobello Promenade. We call the project Imagine Porty Prom. Further information about the project can be read here. To get the project under way we are looking for two key people; a full time Participation Worker to create opportunities for public involvement and a Public Art Consultant to ensure that we are outward looking, meet the highest standards and produce a professional and 'do-able' Plan. Follow the links to find out more about these positions and pass on the information to any of your contacts who might be able to offer the skills and experience we need.
In July we will launch an ambitious programme of activity, including a number of temporary arts commissions, to enable local people and visitors to Portobello to share their imaginings about the Promenade of the future, what we would like to experience when we are there and how we would like to feel about it. The Public Art Plan we create will be incorporated into the development of the City Council's Waterfront Promenade project to develop the full 17 miles of Edinburgh's shoreline (read more about this in The Scotsman). From July, Big Things on the Beach will have its own home when we take over the premises last occupied by the Tides Inn pub at the bottom of Kings Road. This will be the base for the Garden Gallery and the Imagine Porty Prom projects and a launch pad for the future development of Big Things. We look forward to inviting you to our 'lift off' party later in the year. |
