As the construction of WONDER progresses, interest in the project is growing. There have been visits from Towerbank Primary School, the Royal Mile Primary School, Donaldson's School for the Deaf and even a group of school children from Northern Ireland. Community participation in the creation of the work has been a key feature of this year's project with hundreds of people of all ages turning up to fill sandbags and play on them! This has proved to be a bit of a double-edged sword, as children who have helped fill the sandbags have also been playing on the pyramids and sometimes damaging the artist's work. Unfortunately, there has also been a fair amount of late-night vandalism to the pyramids and the police have had to be called on several occasions. To allow Jephson to complete the work on time, fencing has been erected around the artwork to minimise any damage or vandalism before the launch date.

Join us on the beach for the opening: from 6pm Thursday 21st June.

WONDER is scheduled to remain in situ from the summer solstice on 21 June until the winter solstice on 21 December. Big Things on the Beach very much hope that people will respect the artwork and refrain from using it as a play area, climbing apparatus or other so that it stays intact for the enjoyment of the local and the wider community who we are sure will be attracted to come to Portobello to see our very own Pyramids of Porty. WONDER will also be a feature of the Edinburgh Arts Festival.

The launch of WONDER takes place at the site on Thursday 21 June from 6 - 8 pm. Refreshments will be provided and you will have the opportunity to speak to the artist, the participants and the tutor of the Public Art Commissioning Group, as well as Big Things trustees. There will be information and registration forms available for the second Public Art Commissioning Course starting in August. All welcome, particularly druids!

Radio Scotland's Radio Cafe magazine programme will be broadcasting a live feature on WONDER from the beach on Tuesday 19 June between 1.15 - 2 pm so please tune in to hear from those involved in the creation of this exciting and ambitious artwork.

We look forward to seeing you on 21 June and meantime please keep checking the website for news on progress.
