BTOTB logo Big Things on the Beach is a local arts trust in Portobello, Edinburgh. It was formed by a group of residents in 2003 to explore the potential of the Beach in Portobello as a site for the creation and display of public art works by established and emerging artists in Scotland.

2004

In 2004, Big Things worked with artist Renny Nisbit, who created Blue Moon, a tidal artwork at Joppa Rocks.

2005

In 2005 the Big Things trustees once again collaborated with the Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop to commission another 'Big Thing' for Portobello using funding from the Scottish Arts Council and Edinburgh City. Edinburgh artists Euan Harvey and Malcolm Hosie created an ambitious artwork, entitled PROGRESSION. The artwork was unveiled on Portobello Beach on Sunday 31st July 2005, but has now been removed.

2006/7

In 2006 and 2007 a diverse group of 14 Portobello residents (The Portobello Public Art Commissioning Group) and Caroline Muirhead, the Big Things public arts development worker commissioned Wonder by Hill Jephson Robb. The installation of the three pyramids is set to start in May, with the opening event on 21st June 2007.
