Michael Pinsky has just been awarded the 2010 light-based commission for Big Things on the Beach at Portobello.
Michael Pinsky uses the mediums of video, performance, mapping and programming to respond site-specifically to physical and sociological space. The context of a place is crucial, providing both the content and sites for his work. Michael will be in Portobello in mid August to meet the people and research the place of Portobello and develop ideas for his planned artwork, launching Sat 27th March 2010.

Big Things on the Beach is a public art trust in Portobello, a seaside suburb close to the city centre of Edinburgh, Scotland. It was formed by a group of residents in 2003 to explore the potential of the seafront as a site for engagement with public artworks by both emerging and established artists.
